The goal is to stop people from getting repeated alerts they ignore, which can lead them to turn off YouTube notifications entirely. For YouTube, that means fewer opportunities to bring users back into the app. For creators, it also means one less way to reach viewers with new uploads.<\/p>\n
Muted notifications will still appear inside the YouTube app in the inbox, shown through the bell icon in the top-right corner. If you continue clicking notifications and watching related videos, your notification behavior will not change.<\/p>\n
YouTube also said channels that upload infrequently will not be affected by this system. That should help creators who publish long-form videos or occasional uploads, since their audiences may still want alerts even if they do not post often.<\/p>\n
One detail is still unclear: if you start engaging with a channel again after a long break, it is not yet known whether YouTube will automatically restore push notifications for that channel.
